Two new walking tours launched in Black Mountain, NC
According to a story by Karrigan Monk for Black Mountain News, two new walking tours have debuted in Black Mountain, North Carolina. The first is a more traditional walking tour, while the second blends the experience with an escape room.
Escape the 828 and Asheville Free Walking Tours are co-owned by Jordan Doty, who described the new Escape the 828 as “an outdoor escape room virtual reality game.”
“So essentially combining the elements of an escape room meets a walking tour meets a scavenger hunt,” Doty said.
In Black Mountain, there are two different walking tour options.
The first is a walking tour that involves participants picking up an iPad from the Black Mountain Swannanoa Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center and walking around town. At each spot, the iPad will play a video giving participants the history of that particular location. This tour lasts about one hour and includes an approximately one mile walk.
The second tour combines the traditional elements of a walking tour with aspects of an escape room.
“You’ll still be getting to know the area, you’ll still be walking around,” Doty said. “It does have history components, but it’s also very much the escape room with the riddles and the clues and puzzles.”
The tours begin at the Black Mountain Swannanoa Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center where participants can pick up materials and get help signing up online if needed. Both tours cost $20 per group of six people or less.
